Dr. Mekibib Dawit is a distinguished chemist and scientific leader with over two decades of experience spanning academia, research, and the regulated cannabis and botanical industries. As Chief Scientific Officer at MMC Laboratories, he oversees scientific innovation, product development, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance across the company’s operations.
Dr. Dawit has held senior scientific roles in the UK and Africa, including Director at Hemp Scientific and CSO at Eos Scientific and Electronic Cigarettes Ltd. He has led the development of ISO 9001 and cGMP-compliant laboratories, managed cleanroom production, and registered multiple CBD products in the EU. His expertise includes analytical chemistry, environmental science, and cannabinoid formulation, with a strong focus on regulatory frameworks such as the EU Cosmetics Regulation and the Tobacco Products Directive.
He holds a PhD in Biogeochemistry from Middlesex University and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Dawit also serves as a postgraduate supervisor at UNISA and Addis Ababa University, contributing to scientific capacity building across Africa.
